Since 22 April 2025, commuters and day trippers have benefited from improved connections: The bus routes 550 and 2040 now travel beyond their previous route directly to the Finkenwerder ferry landing stage. There, there is a convenient transfer to the Elbe ferry to Hamburg city centre.
This expansion was made possible by close cooperation between the districts of Stade and Harburg, the Hamburg-Mitte district authority, the Ministry of Transport and Mobility Transition and hvv. Passengers from the Old Country, Buxtehude, Jork and Neu Wulmstorf now reach the ferry without changing trains - with the same reliable connections on the previous route.
Provisional infrastructure - sustainable planning
A specially created temporary facility with new stops and berths at the ferry terminal ensures smooth operation. There are plans to convert it into a barrier-free bus station in the future.
This measure not only strengthens local public transport, but also contributes to better networking between the city and the surrounding area.
